What Do Honda Maintenance Minder Codes Mean?

Getting the “Honda A2 Service” or “Honda B1” code on your new Honda dashboard?

Fret not!
That’s your car’s way of telling you that it needs attention.

Whether you own a Honda Civic, Honda Accord, or any other Honda model, the Honda Maintenance Minder system gives you a heads-up about your vehicle’s health through a combination of messages, codes, and subcodes.

Let’s break them down:

A. Honda Maintenance Messages

The Honda Maintenance Minder displays the engine oil life through service messages, notifying you when the engine oil maintenance is due.

You’ll notice one of these three messages on your Honda vehicle dash:

  • Oil Life 15%: Indicates service is due soon. Now would be the right time to schedule a maintenance service with your Honda dealer.
  • Oil Life 5%: Indicates that the service is due now. Book an appointment with your service center ASAP.
  • Oil Life 0%: Indicates that your service is past due. You’ll also see a mileage readout along with the maintenance minder light. It shows how far overdue you are for the scheduled service. Take your vehicle in for service ASAP to avoid engine damage.

B. Main Honda Service Codes

There are two main Honda Service codes:

C. Honda Service Sub-Codes

The main item code is followed by one or more of the following subcodes:

  • 0: Do a multi-point inspection
  • 1: Perform tire rotation
  • 2: Replace the engine and cabin air filters
  • 3: Replace the transmission fluid
  • 4: Replace spark plugs, timing belt, and adjust valves
  • 5: Replace the engine coolant
  • 6: Replace rear differential fluid (if equipped)
  • 7: Replace brake fluid with new inventory

Additional Considerations for Honda Maintenance Codes

While you stick to the above Honda service schedules, keep a few factors in mind:

  • Irrespective of the Honda Maintenance Minder information, replace your brake fluid every three years.
  • If theMaintenance Due Now” message doesn’t appear for more than 12 months after being reset, book a yearly oil change.
  • If you drive new vehicles on dusty roads, change your air cleaner element every 15,000 miles
